The following is a recap of faculty, staff and student accomplishments and news in the month of March.

News Notes

Former faculty member Harry Snyder passed away February 21, 2012. Harry Snyder (Ph.D., Univ. of CA, 1959) was hired by ISU in 1959. Snyder worked on fermentation, myoglobin and soybeans while at Iowa State. He left to go to the University of Arkansas in 1979 and continued his work on soybeans.

Awards

Dr. Jay-lin Jane has been named a Fellow of the American Association of Cereal Chemists Intl.

Dr. Diane Birt has received the Mary Swartz Rose Senior Award and will be honored at the Experimental Biology Meeting

Dr. Christina Campbell has been given the Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award for a DPD program by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly American Dietetic Association)

Appointments

Dr. Jay-lin Jane was selected as the “G. Malcolm Trout Visiting Scholar” by the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University and was invited to their campus to give a Trout Lecture “Novel resistant starch and health benefits.” During the two-day visit, she had the opportunity to visit with faculty and students to exchange ideas and develop collaborative work. In addition to the Trout Lecture, Jane also guest lectured for in a Cereal Science class.

Amber Kargol joined the faculty as an academic adviser. She will work with transfer students as well as prospective students visiting campus.
