FSHN Faculty Return from Administrative Posts

The FSHN department is honored to have four individuals returning as full-time faculty members and are delighted to support their continued efforts in research and teaching excellence. Their significant contributions and years of administrative service are greatly appreciated. Faculty returning are as follows:


Suzanne Hendrich

For seven years, Dr. Suzanne Hendrich, FSHN professor, served as associate dean of Undergraduate Programs & Educational Technology in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Job responsibilities included coordination and facilitation of undergraduate programs and curriculum, development of learning communities and outlining outcomes assessment. Other duties included supervising summer school programs, providing support for scholarships and awards, reviewing technology needs, and working on staff development. Her administrative appointment ended at the end of June 2005 with the combination of colleges.

Anthony Pometto III

Dr. Anthony Pometto III, FSHN professor, became Director of NASA FTCSC in July of 2000. Over the past five years, he successfully led an effort to actively engage 34 commercial partners - four of which experienced commercial successes of products or technologies developed for space. Despite aggressive progress and meeting the goals set by NASA, in February 2005 NASA headquarters did not approve the extension of the cooperative agreement for FTCSC at ISU. The center will officially close on December 30, 2005.

On July 1, 2003, Dr. Pamela White, FSHN University professor, became interim dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at Iowa State University. She succeeded Dean Carol B. Meeks, who had been dean of the college since 1997. During her time as interim dean, White consistently displayed outstanding leadership and graciously guided the college through the transition of combining the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and the College of Education into one college – the College of Human Sciences. Her tenure as interim dean ended at the end of August with the arrival of the newly appointed dean, Dr. Cheryl Achterberg, on September 1, 2005.

In 2004-05, Dr. Deland Myers, FSHN professor, was appointed to a one-year internship in the College of Agriculture through the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Office’s administrative intern program. Myers responsibilities included enhancing recruitment efforts for the college. The program goals are 1) to provide senior faculty and staff with the opportunity to broaden their understanding of and experience in higher education administration, and 2) to diversify the administrative leadership on campus.
