FSHN attends AOCS in Montreal

Several FSHN faculty and staff attended the 104th Annual meeting of the American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS) in Montreal April 28 - May 1, 2013 to present their work, lead sessions, and receive awards.

Ruth MacDonald, professor and chair of the department of food science and human nutrition, is pleased to announce that Ruth Litchfield, associate professor and nutrition extension specialist, has been named associate chair of the department.

Welcome Nuria Acevedo

In February, FSHN welcomed Dr. Nuria Acevedo to the faculty as assistant professor. After making stops in many places through the America’s, she and her family are happy to have made a home in Ames.

Announcing 2013-2014 FSHN Student Ambassadors

We are proud to announce the names of students selected to be FSHN Ambassadors. This inaugural group of Ambassadors is made up of both undergraduate and graduate students across our majors who will serve in this capacity in the 2013-2014 academic year.

Algal Production Facility Open House

The Algal Production Facility features various production systems that are being used to grow algae at the BioCentury Research Farm.

The BioCentury Research Farm will host an open house to showcase its new Algal Production Facility on Thursday, May 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.

FSHN Heading to EB 2013

Going to Experimental Biology in Boston? Don’t miss the following FSHN faculty and students who will be presenting at the meeting. Be sure to congratulate Matt Rowling, recipient of the 2013 Bio-Serv Award in Experimental Animal Nutrition from the American Society for Nutrition (ASN). And don’t miss the ISU reception on April 22 at 7 pm, location in the official program.

Restoring a hidden treasure

The History of Dairying by Christian Petersen, located in the courtyard of the Food Sciences building on Iowa State University campus.

For many years it has been called a hidden treasure on the Iowa State University campus. The History of Dairying mural and fountain by Christian Petersen is tucked into the courtyard of the Food Sciences Building.
