FSHN Department Safety Seminar Presentations

The following Power Point Presentations were presented at FSHN Departmental Seminars 2003-2008 where attendance was required of all faculty, staff and students who worked in a laboratory.

These seminars addressed common safety information that everyone who works in the laboratory must know. The seminars also address concerns that FSHN & EH&S were seeing at that time in our labs and labs across campus. Please keep in mind that the Chemical Hygiene Plan has been replaced by the Laboratory Safety Manual wherever that has been referenced. There are other items that may have changed since the presentations were written and you are reminded to check the information before showing the presentations as currently written.

General format would be the first half hour was used to convey general information and any new concerns and then a game to reinforce what they should know or material just reviewed.

The seminars given 2003-2005 involve using the Jeopardy Safety Game and seminars given 2006-2008 use the FSHN Feud game. The directions for using the seminars with the Jeopardy Safety Game are given and must be followed in order to activate the hyperlinks appropriately. The FSHN Feud game is very straight forward and uses a question and answer format. We usually divided the group into two: either by physical location or faculty& staff vs. students. Prizes were always safety related.

Directions for playing Jeopardy. The objective of this game is to have the player choose an answer and then correctly give a question that would have generated the chosen answer.

  1. Player chooses the category and answer that they want to work with. Seminar Host places the cursor directly on top of the number within the chosen game grid and left click.
  2. The player reads the answer and when the player has generated their question, the Host places the cursor directly over the number of points (upper right side of title) to see if the correct question is generated.
  3. To return to the Jeopardy game board, place the cursor directly over the number of points for giving the correct question (upper right side of title) and left click.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 until all squares have been chosen. Add up the points for each team and declare the winner.
  5. Right click and choose end show.

We hope that you will use these seminars to teach more people safety principles and to make your laboratories safe for all personnel.
