FSHN College Bowl Team wins Regional Competition and gets a bid to nationals

The FSHN College Bowl Team defeated the University of Minnesota by a score of 36 to 16 in the final round to clinch the Midwest Regional title in River Falls, Wisconsin, and get a bid to nationals.
ISU beat 5 teams in double elimination bracket play to win the right to be one of six competitors at the national level. Each competition round consists of 20 questions. At the national competition, two of the questions must be visual.
Teams in competition answer questions in the areas of food science and technology, the history of foods and processing, food laws, nutrition, and general IFT/food-related trivia in a Jeopardy-like fashion. All questions fit into 20 categories. The competition also includes more difficult bonus questions, which can be answered as a team.
Team members Jose Gerde, Stephanie Volk, Charlwit Kulchaiyawat, David Manu, Molly Mayers, Marne Parriott and Emily Griep next compete in Anaheim, CA at the national Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) meeting in June. Advisors of the team are Drs. Pat Murphy and Mark Love.
Other teams who competed in the North Central region competition are: University of Wisconsin - River Falls, University of Minnesota, University of Nebraska - Lincoln, University of Wisconsin - Madison. The 2008 national competition winner was The Ohio State University.
