Many of the changes in curriculum as well as academic and support services
listed below are recent, and the affected students have not yet graduated
or completed senior surveys. We expect to see students report increased
self-confidence in future self-assessments, as a result of these changes.
Changes in Curriculum
The following curriculum changes have been made based on outcomes assessment
and feedback from students.
2002-03:
- Faculty are requested to include course
outcomes on the syllabi for their courses.
2003-04:
- An oral presentation and written report
are incorporated into FSHN 203 Contemporary Issues in FSHN to introduce
communication skills early in the degree program.
- FSHN 311 Food Chemistry increased from
3 credits to 4 credits to include application of food chemistry concepts
to plant and animal commodities.
- FSHN 110 Orientation increased from
0.5 to 1.0 credits to incorporate portfolio development.
2005-07:
- FSHN 342 World Food Issues will become
a required course for all FSHN students to meet the learning outcomes
related to social concerns and ethics (2005-07 ISU Catalog).
Academic and Support Services
2002-03:
- The
FSHN Learning Community was instituted to provide an opportunity
for students with interests in food and nutrition careers to make
meaningful connections both in and outside the classroom with their
peers and departmental faculty. The freshmen may choose to
live on the same residence hall floor, and they all enroll in common
courses, including FSHN Orientation, Biology I, First-Year Composition,
and Library during fall semester, and Introduction to Human Nutrition,
Biology II, and a portfolio seminar during spring semester. Students
participate in social, professional, and service learning opportunities.
2003-04:
- Outcomes Assessment committee is formed
and charged with the responsibility of oversight of outcomes assessment
activities.
