| Student Training Since August 2003, the RIING project has
sent one student each to Iowa State University and the University of
Connecticut to pursue doctoral studies in Nutritional Sciences. One
more student will start the masters program in Nutritional sciences
at Iowa state University in August 2004. Below is a profile of the students
being sponsored by the RIING project.
Student Travels to Ghana (2004)
Two students, one from Iowa State University and the other from the
University of Connecticut are currently in Ghana for research assignments.
Ama Atiedu from Iowa State University is collecting data on infant care
and the role of alternative caregivers in Agomanya, one of the study
sites for the RIING project. Gloria is in Ghana on a study tour with
the RIING project. The trip is expected to help her define the focus
of her PhD research thesis.
Student Training through RIING project:
- Dr Richmond Aryeetey (from Ghana): Doctoral studies in Human nutritional Sciences at Iowa State University. Currently on faculty at the School of Public Health, University of Ghana
- Dr Gloria Otoo (from Ghana):: Doctoral studies at the University of Connecticut. Currently on faculty at the department of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Ghana.
- Olivia Mawunyo Timpo (from Ghana):: Masters studies at the University of Connecticut. Currently a Research Officer on the ENAM project at the Department of Agricultural Extension, University of Ghana.
- Adolphina Addo (from Ghana):: Masters studies at Iowa State University. Currently working as assistant data manager on the RIING project and as part-time faculty member at the department of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Ghana. In August, 2008 she will be proceeding to the University of Massachusetts.USA to start doctoral studies in Public Health.
- Harriet Okronipa (from Ghana): Currently pursuing masters studies at McGill University. She is expected to finish her studies by October, 2008.
- Agartha Cofie (from Ghana): Currently field supervisor on the RIING project. She will proceeding to McGill University to start doctoral studies in Nutrition in August, 2008.
- Ama Atiedu (from USA): Masters studies at Iowa State University. Came to Ghana to collect data on "Alternative care-giving" towards her master's thesis while a student at Iowa State University. She has
completed her studies and currently works in the US with the California Department of Public Health.
- Jasna Robinson (from Canada): She is currently in Ghana to collect data on "Infant feeding decisions in rural Ghanaian communities" towards her master's thesis. She is a student at McGill University.
