UNDERGRADUATE
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are given annually by the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition to undergraduate students who have demonstrated academic excellence, professional promise, leadership skills, and financial need. Except where noted, a 3.0 GPA or higher is needed to be eligible for a department scholarship. To apply for a scholarship, complete the appropriate application form and return to Jean Tilley, 220 MacKay Hall by February 1, 2008.
Late applications will not be accepted. The scholarships below are
listed alphabetically by topic area. If you wish to be considered
for scholarships that have financial need as criteria, you must file
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application with
the university. NOTE:
Students who are seniors (or those who have been admitted into the graduate progam) in combined BS/MS degree programs are eligible
only for graduate scholarships.

GENERAL CHS
- FSHN SCHOLARSHIPS
Jean Bacon Louis Scholarship is given to an undergraduate majoring in dietetics, food science with consumer food science option, or nutritional science in the College of Human Sciences. The recipient must be a citizen of the United States. Equal weight will be given to academic achievement and financial need.
Jean Tiffany Cox Scholarship is given to undergraduate students with a major in Nutrition in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition in the College of Human Sciences.
Elinor and Walter Fehr Family Endowed Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences (Fehr Family Scholarship) shall be open to all incoming and current undergraduate students pursuing a major in nutrition or dietetics. Recipients of the Fehr Family Scholarship shall have demonstrated strong academic achievement, leadership, and character.
Mary Jane Sankot Holland Scholarship in Food Science and Human Nutrition is given to sophomore, junior or senior students enrolled in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition in the College of Human Sciences. The recipients shall demonstrate financial need, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. First preference shall be to an applicant enrolled in the Dietetics program. Second preference shall be to a resident of the state of Iowa. Third preference shall be to a female applicant. Scholarships shall be awarded for one year, but may be renewed for an additional year upon re-application.
Irene Johnson Jones Scholarship is given to students in FSHN in the College of Human sciences. The recipient shall maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA of a 4.0 scale, abide by the University’s Code of Conduct, studying Dietary Education. All scholarships awarded shall be for one year, and may be renewed by re-applying provided the recipient continues to meet stated criteria. This scholarship is available to students regardless of class standing.
Lisa K. Mack Scholarship shall be given to full-time undergraduate students majoring in Dietetics and/or Community Nutrition in the College of Human Sciences. Preference should be given to students who are residents of Minnesota. Recipient should exhibit strong leadership qualities and show proof of a “B” average or better overall at time of application.
Letitia Jones Olson Scholarship shall be given to full-time FSHN students in the College of Human Sciences. The scholarship award shall be the net income earned by the endowment fund each year. Selection is based on superior scholarship, initiative, potential for leadership and financial need.
Belle Lowe Scholarship is given to an undergraduate student in the College of Human Sciences, who shows evidence of the professional attributes taught and exemplified by Professor Lowe. These are: 1) strong understanding, appreciation of and ability to apply the physical sciences in work with foods; 2) innovative and creative approaches with food and food components; 3) thorough, careful workmanship; and 4) maintenance of high scholarship. Financial need is a consideration.
P. Mabel Nelson Scholarship is given to a woman (undergraduate or graduate) student in the College of Human Sciences working towards a BS or PhD degree in dietetics, nutrition or food science. Academic achievement and financial need are factors in selection.
Leta B. Norcross Memorial Scholarship is given to an incoming senior in FSHN in the College of Human Sciences based on academic excellence and financial need. The recipient must have taken FSHN 360.
Floyd and Mattie Pattison Paddock Scholarship is given to a student majoring in a food science, dietetics, or nutrition degree program in the College of Human Sciences.
Mabel Sherrill Southworth Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students in FSHN in the College of Human Sciences. Scholarships will be awarded for one academic year, but may be renewed upon re-application.
Frances Lucille Harding Thiesfeld Scholarship shall be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students from rural America who demonstrate financial need and are enrolled in the College of Human Sciences. Students should be majoring in food science and human nutrition, be of good repute and moral character and who, upon graduation, will most likely be a credit to themselves, their family, Iowa State University and the USA.
The Doris Lister Dull Scholarship is given to a current or incoming student enrolled in dietetics, food science or nutrition in the College of Human Sciences. Financial need is the criteria for this award.
The Florence Pen Scholarship Fund is given to an undergraduate student in FSHN in the College of Human Sciences.
The Helen Greer Feamster Fund is given to students majoring in dietetics, food science, or nutrition in the College of Human Sciences.
Noel & Ruth Smith Family Food Science Scholarship is given to undergraduate or graduate students in FSHN within the College of Human Sciences. The recipient shall demonstrate financial need, a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, involvement in an honors program, community interest and leadership potential. Scholarships awarded shall be for one year, but may be renewed for additional years upon reapplication and continuing qualification.
Burnette and Dr. Robert M. Young Scholarship is given to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in FSHN within the College of Human Sciences and majoring in Dietetics.
Charlotte S. and Charles M. Fullgraf Scholarship is given to students in FSHN within the College of Human Sciences. The scholarship is available to sophomore, junior or senior dietetics students with a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. Recipients shall demonstrate leadership and involvement in school and community activities and have demonstrated financial need. This scholarship may be renewed for each year the recipient continues to meet the original criteria. The student must re-apply to be considered for renewal.

CONSUMER FOOD SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Diane R. McComber Scholarship is given to a junior or senior majoring in food science, with a consumer food science option, in the College of Human Sciences. The recipient must have demonstrated consistent outstanding scholastic achievement and have financial need.
E. Madge Miller Award is given to an incoming junior or senior majoring in food science, with a consumer food science option, in the College of Human Sciences.
GENERAL AG - FSHN SCHOLARSHIPS
The
Judith Klang Morrison and David Morrison Scholarship Fund is given to students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. This scholarship may be renewed for each year the recipient continues to meet the original criteria. The student must re-apply to be considered for renewal.

DAIRY FOODS SCHOLARSHIPS
Dr.
H.C. Olson Scholarship
is given to full time students in the department of FSHN in the College
of Agriculture, with preference given to those whose work and careers
are directed to dairy food processing. Selection will be made
on the basis of superior scholarship, initiative, potential for leadership
and financial need.
Alumni
Dairy Food Scholarship is
given to an entering freshman student in the College of Agriculture
with a potential
career in Dairy Industry. The amount of the award is equal to
the annual earned interest on the endowment.
Verba
S. and Verner H. Nielsen Scholarship Fund is
open to undergraduate and graduate students with preferences being
given to students pursuing an education in Dairy Science and also
preferences in the College of Agriculture.

FOOD SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Dennis and Delores Puffer Food Science and Industry Scholarship Fund is given to a student majoring in Food Science and Human Nutrition in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Preferences should be given to students in the Food Science and Industry option and also to students with financial need.
Bernice K. & Raymond D. Watt Scholarship is given to a full-time student in food science in the College of Human Sciences.
Carl N. Kennedy Memorial Scholarship is available to an incoming junior in Food Science and Human Nutrition in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with financial need, and with an all college GPA of at least 3.00. The scholarship can be renewed for the recipient's senior year if the above requirement is maintained. The student must re-apply to be considered for renewal.
Korslund-Keim Scholarship will be given to an incoming sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in a food science program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Evaluation factors include professional potential, financial need, and academic achievement. The award amount shall be equal to 50% of the annual cost of in-state tuition or the annual interest generated by the principal if the interest is less than 50% of the cost of tuition. The student must re-apply to be considered for renewal.
AWARDS
Wilma D.
Brewer Award is given to the student who writes the best scientific
essay. Scholarships up to $500 will be awarded in each category.

DIETETIC
INTERNSHIP AWARDS
Helen Reilly
Cahill Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in
the ISU dietetic internship program who have demonstrated academic
ability, work and volunteer experience in areas transferable to dietetics,
and who have the potential to make significant contributions to the
dietetics profession.
