Graduate and undergraduate students in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition have the opportunity to get involved in student clubs on campus and in professional societies affiliated with the food science and nutrition disciplines.

Culinary Science Club Culinary Science Club strives to introduce members to new topics in culinary science through many events including speakers, field trips, and cooking demonstrations. Officers »
Dairy Products Evaluation Club Students in the Dairy Products Evaluation Club learn how to identify quality defects in six diferent dairy products. Each year, five members are selected to represent the team and compete at the National Collegiate Dairy Products Evaluation Contest. Officers »

Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Club The Interdisciplinary graduate student club is for students in Food Science and Technology, Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Nutritional Sciences, Animal Science, Kinesiology, and Diet and Exercise. It provides an opportunity to discuss post-doctoral experiences, future job opportunities and a variety of other topics across disciplines.
ISU Student Dietetic Association The ISU Student Dietetic Association (SDA) provides current information on trends in the profession of dietetics and advancements in the field to student members. Officers »

Product Development Team The Product Development Team creates and develops an idea for a new food, carrying the concept through production and marketing of a new product. They compete with the newly developed food product against other students from across the United States. Contact Dr. Clark, adviser.
The SHOP The SHOP (Students Helping Our Peers) is an on campus food pantry created by students for students and located in 2616 Food Sciences Building. The SHOP is run completely by volunteers and all the food is donated. Students may come in, show their ID, and receive food without record. Officers »

American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC) International
A leader in gathering and disseminating scientific and technical information to professionals in the grain-based foods industry, the American Association of Cereal Chemists International (AACC International) provides technical information, significant research findings, industry trends and career development.
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Students interested in dietetics and nutrition are encouraged to join the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association), a professional organization committed to improving the nation’s health and advancing the profession of dietetics through research, education and advocacy. Affiliated with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is comprised of a diverse group of food and nutrition professionals who work to optimize the health of Iowan’s through food and nutrition.
American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) Students and faculty interested in fats, oils, surfactants, and detergents join the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) which offers resources for sharing scientific information and knowledge, connecting the science of oil chemistry to daily life.
American Society for Nutrition (ASN) The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) is a professional organization dedicated to bringing together researchers, clinical nutritionists, and industry to advance knowledge and application of nutrition for the sake of humans and animals.
Institute of Food Technologies (IFT) The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) is the professional organization for those interested in culinary science and food science. As a paid member of the IFT Student Association, students receive a subscription to the Food Technology magazine with stories on the latest news and hottest trends in the industry. Students and faculty are also involved in the Iowa Section of IFT which holds meetings four times a year in locations around the state that are a great tool for networking.
